MCLEAN, VA – In October, General Paul M. Nakasone, former Director of the National Security Agency and Commander, U.S. Cyber Command, was awarded the 2024 Richard M. Helms Award at the CIA Officers Memorial Foundation (COMF) annual dinner in the Washington, DC area. Every year, the Helms Award is presented to an individual who has made significant contributions to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in support of its officers and their families. General Nakasone was selected for his outstanding service and commitment to the intelligence community, and his efforts to advance strategic partnerships across agencies to address the most pressing national security threats facing our nation.
“We thank General Nakasone for his continued support of the CIA and his decades of exceptional leadership and service. It was an honor to present him with this year’s Helms Award.” said COMF President John Edwards.
The annual dinner serves as an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of fallen CIA officers and recognize the families they left behind. Every CIA officer takes an oath to defend and protect the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and this declaration is made with an understanding of the inherent risks of their work. The sacred promise of COMF is to protect the families of those brave officers who willingly accept these risks, should the worst happen, by providing individualized support and funding at all stages of life.
